I like to say practicing calligraphy feel like zen meditation to me – it certainly helps me to be more mindful of what I’m doing.

A nib and some ink are all you need to transform letters and words into works of art. With the right tools and some practice, you don't have to be a serious calligrapher or professional to take your writing from mundane to spectacular. However, with all the options and variations on the market, it can be overwhelming to parse through the different selections of nibs and styles.

What I aim to teach in this new series of lessons is not the traditional flowing scripts that the words "Arabic calligraphy" evoke. As beautiful as they are, they are very formal, and it takes a long and repetitive apprenticeship to learn to draw them properly, and even longer to be able to express oneself with them ("Make patient imitation your habit", said Ibn al-Bawwâb, one of the great names of the art.

Calligraphy is an art that can help us present our words in a unique and outstanding manner, making them not only speak, but act from your behalf.
